He carries us

“Praise the Lord; praise God our savior! For each day he carries us in his arms.” Psalms 68:19

What strikes me about this verse is that for God to carry us, He has to be near us, close, with us in the midst of whatever we are facing. I imagine what this might look like. It could be a parent carrying a weary toddler who is wiped out at the end of the day. It could be a father tenderly holding a newborn baby as he feeds and comforts and cares for the child. Or it could be someone caring a wounded soldier in the midst of a fierce battle, picking us up and carrying us through the fighting that rages around us. That is the image that most sticks with me. For God to carry us, He has to be with us in the battle, in the messiness. He also has to be strong to carry our weight, stronger than we are - powerful, steady, firm, sure. I’ve been meditating on this verse this week as I’ve been in bed under the weather with migraine on top of that and as I received news that my insurance company won’t cover a treatment needed to break this constant pain. Maybe you’ve had a tough week too. Whatever you are facing today, look to the Lord and allow Him to carry you in His strong arms. He is near.
